Academics 学术

It’s very hard but prepares you

There are easy classes to be found, but generally you will be
challenged.

There are so many classes to choose from that even if you don’t get the
class you want you’ll find something. The professors are generally
helpful and extremely intelligent. You can’t get by not reading or
putting in effort. All of the classes require a decent amount of
studying

Campus 校园

Madison is what made me choose this school. Yes, the academics are also
a bonus but Madison is such a gorgeous place to go to school. In between
two beautiful lakes, and a really nice downtown area, you get the best
of both city and the peaceful life.

Madison is an amazing city in which to live. The campus is situated
between two lakes, and the downtown area is minutes away from the center
of campus. There are plenty of options for outdoor activities like
walking along the lakeshore path, swimming in or ice fishing on the
lakes, and events like 5ks, marathons, and an Iron Man triathlon. There
is a rich history and culture here, and the locals and students take
part in it. Any night of the week there is something going on, whether
it be an event on the lake terrace at Memorial Union, a concert at the
Overture Center, or something like a football game, there is never a
reason to be bored.

Food

State Street is great and provides a change in the food scene but if
looking anywhere else off-campus the locations are usually fast-food.

State

They offer a lot of variety with nice dining halls and convenient
locations but they food gets old.

I enjoyed the a la carte system, it kept me from getting more food than
I needed and it prevents food waste overall. I was also impressed with
the food itself–for cafeteria style food, it’s tasty and there are a
variety of options. It can get old after awhile, but it is very
convenient.

Health & Safety

It’s a safe school with lots of precautions set up.

Most people look out for one another when it comes to drinking in
parties and they try to be safe while having fun.

The university is very informative and provides updates about crimes
within 24 hours of it being reported. It also provides services to those
involved and requires incoming freshmen to educate themselves or attend
campus events regarding sexual assault, drinking, and cultural
appropriation.

Housing 住宿

Receiving my 12th choice dorm, I am a little biased. I found the housing
process to be a bit frustrating in that regard, but putting my hassles
aside, I think they have a process that works well overall. Lakeshore is
pretty far from anything social on campus, and is where I currently
live. It’s nice to have the dining hall in Dejope and sports amenities
so near by, by it is a hike to any of my classes. The social atmosphere
is great in the Southeast area, but quite low in the Lakeshore area. The
cost seems pretty ridiculous though for such a tiny room.

This is my second year in the dorms and since I was a returning student,
I was allowed to pick the exact room and dorm I wanted. I live in the
neighborhood that is considered to be farther away from the center of
campus than the other neighborhood, but it really doesn’t make a
difference. The housing staff and janitorial staff are all pleasant and
friendly and as long as you leave your door open the first two weeks of
class, its easy to meet people on your floor.

Overall Experience

I love Madison. It offers a high-end education that can prepare you
extremely well for whatever comes next in your life. Madison offers any
and all clubs you can think of to enrich your experience. Many
professors hold office hours and want to help.

I loved my first year at UW-Madison! It was full of fun, adventure, lots
of friendship and many many learned lessons. Aside from the great
academics, there was always something to do. It was either grubbing on
some food on state street, watching a movie at the marquee at union
south, eating ice cream at memorial union, or enjoying the sunsets by
the lake!

Although UW-Madison was great, I wished they did more to help solve the
issue of sexual assault and I wished they tried harder to engage
students of all backgrounds. I also wished there was more of an
interaction between students of color and those who are not.

It’s a school with strong academics and a fun atmosphere. I received a
great education here, majoring in Wildlife Ecology, and enjoyed living
in the college town of Madison.

Party Scene

It’s all over all the time.

Great parties, usually cheap or free to get in. I spent $5 to get a cup
once and that was it.

The nightlife is great here. If you are into partying you will find
something. If partying isn’t your thing you will still find something to
do either through the school or just activities around town.

The party scene is great. Most nights if you want to go out and have fun
you will find a place. Even if you don’t want to drink, parties are a
fun place to hang out with friends and meet new people.

There’s a reason it’s been named the top party school in the country.

Go badgers! The football and basketball team get lots of attention and
the games are a lot of fun but getting tickets is hard.

Greek life (as a non-greek member) has not affected my life on campus in
any regard. I have met plenty of great people at the events they hold,
but at the end of the day there isn’t a rivalry or hatred for one
another. There are plenty to choose from and people generally get into
one of their top choices. I have considered a professional co-ed
fraternity, which are great to expand your knowledge and build
connections. Overall I think Greek life does good things for the
individual and community.

School spirit is taken to the next level at the University of Wisconsin.
During football games, the streets are flooded in red and white, and
thousands of students go to the games to support the teams. Whether its
football, basketball, or hockey, students are competing to get the
season tickets and show off their school spirit. There are tons of
intramural and club sports offered, as well as free sports facilities to
just have fun on your own.

It definitely could be more diverse. There is a very noticeable white
majority on campus, which can sometimes cause some friction between
cultural and racial understandings

I am not involved in Greek Life, but those I know who are involved love
it. A lot of out-of-state students join because they have a built-in
family while they are on campus. Greeks and non-Greeks get along just
fine, I have never heard of an issue between the two.

Athletics are huge here, but the athletes are expected to do
exceptionally well in their classes too. All the teams do really well,
and there is always a large crowd of students cheering for the teams.
Saturdays are weekly holidays when the Badgers play at Camp Randall and
the entire campus turns red.

Value

I can’t speak for after graduation, but there are tons of great on
campus jobs and internships available.

A degree from UW is worth a lot!

A lot of alumni decide to be active after they leave or graduate from
the school. A large portion of grad students that obtained their
bachelor’s in UW-Madison remained here as instructors, professors, and
doctoral candidates.
